Today my children end a school year with popsicles and games

Families in Buffalo and Texas prepare for a funeral

The senator from Connecticut said it well:

Only in this country

How long will we be silent?

Why is the home of the brave and land of the free enslaved by violence?

When will the politicians and citizens see the bloodstains on the walls and on their hands?

Silence and thoughts and prayers don’t protect the innocent

Good intentions won’t save a second grader and grandmother from the grave

How long will we be silent?

Only in America do mass shootings happen like a liturgical calendar of death

Only in America do we have more guns than people

Only in America do we believe military style weapons should be for all

Only in America do we choose personal freedoms over protecting our neighbors

Only in America do we bow at the feet of the Declaration of Independence and Jesus and not see the difference

Only in America do we line our pockets with bloody-gun-mammon

And not consider the children laying in pools of blood after receiving a citizenship award

How long will we be silent?
